11 July 2015 RSUH students and teachers visited the Club of Indian friendship in Tarusa

RSUH students and teachers visited Tarusa, a small Russian town. Tarusa is known to have existed since 1246. So this day the citizens celebrated 769 years old of his town and it has been organized a big holiday. A monument to Russian poet Nicholas Zabolotskii was also inaugurated this day. There was an Opening of the Festival of Richter Foundation dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Sviatoslav Richter the Great Russian pianist. He was known for the depth of his interpretations, virtuoso technique, and vast repertoire. He is considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. Maestro liked coming to his small wooden house in the Ladyzhin village not far fr om the Tarusa town and loved looking to the river Oka, the influx of Volga, the Great Russian River.

A festival of folk art was also organized wh ere Tarusa’s citizens were able to see the concert of Indian dance group under the direction of Akshay Kumar, a teacher of the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre, Embassy of India in Russia.

The Club of friends of India was organized in 2000 by Lyudmila Savelyeva, a teacher of Hindi and Gujarati. Lyudmila Vasilyevna’ s whole life was focused to the development of the Russian-Indian friendship. After graduation, she started working at the Institute of Oriental Studies in Leningrad (now Saint Petersburg). In 1965 she had published a textbook of Gujarati for Russian people. As she was a specialist of Gujarati she was invited to Moscow in 1974 to work in the “Raduga” Publishing house. She translated Russian literary into Gujarati and novels and poems of Gujarat literature into Russian. After the collapse of the Soviet Union Publishing house was closed. Lyudmila wrote a letter to Gujarat University in Ahmedabad requesting to work in the university’s library. She spent two years in Ahmedabad and during this time she made a big Programme about Mahatma Gandhi and Leo Tolstoy. When she came to live in town of Tarusa she decided to organize a Club of Indian culture. She started to teach Russian pupils Hindi. Tarusa children showed the performances on «Ramayana" Indian epic poem and "Shakuntala" by Kalidasa. School children played Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and the other characters. They also learned about Mahatma Gandhi and his correspondence with Leo Tolstoy, about Indian food, an Indian folklore and Indian dances.

Mrs Natalia Verzilina Mayor of the city of Tarusa actively supports all initiatives of the Club of Indian friendship, providing all facilities for the study of Hindi, Indian dances, in the organizing a Festival of day of Indian Culture. The Club of Indian friendship organized a lot of activities together with the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre, Embassy of India in Russia. Directors of JNCC visited Tarusa pupils many times: Mr.Ashok Sajjanhar, Mr.Manish Prabhat, Mr. Sanjay Vedi, Deputy Director of JNCC.

In May 2014 the Club of Indian friendship presented reports about the life of Mahatma Gandhi in “Yasnaya Polyana”, the estate of Leo Tolstoy. H.E. Sh. P.S. Raghavan, Ambassador of India to Russia and Barbara Raghavan attended this meeting. The last three years, the founder of the Club of Friends of India is Satish Malik, an Indian businessman and Natalia Tarutina is the Director. Natalia is fond of Indian Dances so she created a female group Bollywood dance.

Satish Malik used to organize participations of Tarusa children to Moscow to visit Hindi Divas on September, 14, Diwali and Holi, Indian national holidays. 
RSUH teachers presented Hindi textbooks to members of the Club of Friends of India in Tarusa and we hope that our friendship will grow!
